Homework Help: Solved 254506

Responses must be at least 150 words. First response: Hello Class, Its the final week!!! I have been trying to finish up this class with a BAM!!! What are the biggest problems facing the criminal justice system in the area of computer crime? The biggest problems facing the criminal justice system in the area of computer crime is that most people are not aware of the threats. When you look at public and private organizations, they had to start doing cyber awareness training. This was so they can educate management and employees of the simple things such as computer use, creating passwords that are secure, checking mail, removable media, social media, and so on. Federal and state law enforcement officials is limited because those investigating or examining cyber-crime must be highly trained specialists, requiring detective and technical skills, including knowledge of various IT hardware and software, and forensic tools. 2. How can the criminal justice system and law enforcement prepare for the future of cybercrime? They can ensure cyber-crime is reported, adequate analytical and technical capabilities for law enforcement, work in a borderless environment with laws of multiple jurisdictions and implement information security practices and raising awareness. Everyone I feel should try to at least stay updated with the minimum. Some people are set with being a dinosaur and honestly they are the ones that are the hardest to scam. They do not use technology. They are old fashion. They do not use online banking so they pay their bills with checks or cash. What are the biggest problems facing the criminal justice system in the area of computer crime? The fact that it is particularly difficult for the legal system to catch up with the rate of change happening with computers. Completely new frameworks for committing crimes have been devised and it is hard for government to move quickly or adapt in something basic like giving out driver’s licenses. Governments will always be behind this power curve, and unfortunately there is nothing we can really do to change this without losing some of our inherent freedoms that we hold dear. As our course text points out, we are in that “third wave” of information, and the world is changing very quickly (Taylor, Fritsch, and Liederbach, 2015, pg. 343). A culture of adaptability will have to be pursued, not just in criminal justice but all facets of life moving forward. 2. How can the criminal justice system and law enforcement prepare for the future of cybercrime? Adaptability is going to be key moving forward, it’s the same answer as the first question this week but I think it fits in both. We know that changes are going to keep happening quickly and be rapidly implemented. In my short life I have seen rotary phones evolve to the point of smart phones with computing power that would have been unfathomable decades ago. That type of change is going to keep happening, and it will especially happen in the field of criminal justice and hinder law enforcement. You cannot patrol networks the way you do neighborhoods, it’s a complete paradigm shift. I can bully people online, steal their identities and money, or feasibly kill them by influencing real world effects from the safety of my house. That is a heavy concept to take on but law enforcement has to realize what works today will not tomorrow, or maybe even more poignant is you will have to be able to do both. I’ve had fun learning with you all, and wish you all the best moving forward with your studies and careers. Best, Jimmy References: Taylor, R., Fritsch, E. & Liederbach, J. (2015).
